There are few diffeent courses available. Basic Finnnish 1 and 2 are both three month long courses and Speaksers Clubs are more intensive 1 month with thmatic focuses. Take your time to read the descriptions through to be sure you pick the right course for you.
Finnish Courses at Your Pick
You dont need any experience in Finnish when starting the course. WIthin these courses you sart speaking Finnish from the first week. Learn everyday basics and begin using Finnish in real life situations. That helps to build confidence and speak more naturally in daily life while expanding your vocabulary, grammar and spoken Finnish for real communication. Instruction language at the courses is English. You can find courses currently open for enrollment at the end of this page.
Basic Finnish 1 - Level A1
Basic Finnish 1 teaches you the essential everyday Finnish you need for starting life in Finland. During the course you will learn how to introduce yourself, talk about your background, family and daily life, tell time, order food, and describe your home. You build core vocabulary used in real everyday situations, and you learn the most important beginner grammar such as pronouns, verb olla “to be”, verb types, partitive basics and consonant gradation (KPT). After this course you can already handle simple conversations and basic communication in Finnish confidently. Basic Finnish 1 group size is 20 - 25 students.
Basic Finnish 2 - Level A1/A2
Basic Finnish 2 continues from the foundations and expands your skills into real practical daily life situations. You learn how to talk about what you are doing, move around the city, ask for directions, shop in stores, and talk about hobbies and interests. You will learn more useful structures, spoken Finnish commonly used by Finns, and strengthen your grammar and verb skills. After the course you will communicate more naturally, understand more spoken language, and manage more independent interaction in Finnish in everyday environments. Basic Finnish 2 groups sixe is 20 - 25 students.
Speakers Clubs - Level A2
Spekaers Clubs are taking the learning more intensive and more specific with different variying themes. There for it is recommend that you do have at least some Finnish background knowedge and you have an interest to expand vocabulary and build self-confidemce to speak it out in different professional settings. Some examples of existing themes: nursing, hotel - restaurant - catering (HoReCa). During the course you have six tasks per week requiring you to speak Finnish. Speakers Clubs are done in the groups of 15 students and to wrap up the course, there is one personal 1-to-1 call.
What do I need to enroll?
To participate in the course, you will need a smartphone with internet access, as most of the learning activities are done online. A computer or laptop is recommended for some tasks, but not mandatory. Please also have a pen and paper available for notes and practices, and a good command of English to follow instructions and course content.
Course Structures
Basic Finnish 1 & 2
- Week 1: Online kickoff session
- Weeks 2-11: Online classes two times per week.
- Classes mainly take place late afternoon / evening times
- Homework and activating tasks between online classes
- Week 12: Online course closure session and receive a certificate
Speakers Clubs
- Online kickoff session
- Weeks 1.4: Six times a week small daily speaking and typing tasks that need to be completed before within 24hrs after receiving it.
- Personal 1-to-1 discussion and learning evaluation and receive a certificate
CEFR - Common European Framework of Reference
Course level categorizations do follow the CEFR approach which is widely recognized and used across Europe and beyond. The framework has six level groups A - B - C, where each is being divided on two (A1 - A2 etc.). These availabe courses are focused on level A - Basic user courses.
